The Year 5 team this year includes Mrs Adams, Miss Davis, Mr Stevenson, Ms Franklin and Mrs Slingsby.
At the beginning of the Summer Term, there were golden envelopes with clues in around the school. In a whole school assembly, we decoded the clues, with music and photographs of our teachers and school staff in different locations, we figured out that our Topic this half-term is, ‘What does it mean to be a Londoner?’ We are finishing the half-term with a London Tea Party!
We are going to be visiting lots of different places in London doing a walking tour of the bridges in central London as well as visiting The Museum of London! We will be doing observational sketches on our trips. We have got at least 2 different visitors coming into school to share how our local community has changed over time and inspire us about opportunities in London!
In Computing, we will be using MS Publisher to present information about London landmarks.
In Geography, we will be doing a local study of Harlesden – we shall compare different maps to see how the physical features have changed over time.
In RE, we will be learning about Buddhism.
In PHSE, we will be studying British Values and learning about the work charities work do to help others and designing our own charity!
We will be reading ‘London Eye Mystery’ – using it to develop our reading strategies and inspire our creative writing.
We will also be writing persuasive travel guide leaflets.
In Maths, we will be continuing to learn about decimals, fractions and percentages. In Geometry, we will be starting to look at properties of shapes – identifying 3D shapes and irregular polygons; and estimating, measuring and comparing angles.
