Year 6 (Pre-secondary)
This year, our year 6 classes are called "pre-secondary". We are working closely with local secondary schools and want to improve the ways in which we prepare our children for their transition in September 2018.
Children are taught by a team of teachers during the week: Mrs Allard, Ms Hawker, Ms Rau, Ms Auty, Mr Hau, Ms Rogers, Ms Malcolm and Ms Cox.
All children have a pre-secondary planner to help them organise their home learning and other things. They have a locker in which they can safely store their PE kit and other things.
We have very high expectations of this pre-secondary year group. We work closely with families to celebrate successes and offer children additional opportunities and responsibility where possible.
Pre-secondary are really lucky to be taking part in Stories from Willesden Lane. This is an exciting free project that many schools across London will be working on. Every child has been given a copy of The Children of Willesden Lane, which tells the story of a Jewish girl, Lisa Jura – a talented musician – and her escape from Nazi controlled Austria. We are going to explore World War II, the impact it had on London and the local area and the holocaust. As part of the project we will be involved in a live webinar in May and we will also go to Westminster to see the book performed live on stage in the second half of the summer term. In our reading, writing and topic lessons we will read and study the text.
